This is a simplified alternative to setting up a private foundation. Additionally, donor-advised funds are one of the most efficient charitable estate planning tools available to anyone seeking to create a legacy of charitable giving that can last many generations.
When you open a donor-advised fund at the Nollenberger Capital Partners Foundation, you can contribute to your fund at any time. The fund is established under your individual or family’s name. Once it is established, you can recommend that grants be made in your name (if you choose) to the issues and organizations you wish to support. You can also set up your donor-advised fund as an endowment, which allows you to make grants in perpetuity.
By setting up a donor-advised fund, you can take advantage of the most favorable tax treatment afforded to individuals and families making charitable donations under IRS regulations. These include tax deductions, taken in the year in which you make contributions, of up to 50% of adjusted gross income for gifts of cash and up to 30% of adjusted gross income for gifts of appreciated securities. Once your donor-advised fund has been established and funded at the Nollenberger Capital Partners Foundation, you can access information through Donor Express. This online site will allow you to:
- Track gifts as well as grants that have been made from your fund
- Find out how much is available in your fund for grantmaking
- Recommend grants online
- Find out more about thousands of nonprofit groups in the Bay Area

To submit a grant recommendation without using Donor Express, you may use a Grant Recommendation Form, which you can download here as a PDF file, fill out, and fax to the Foundation.
